Gemma, a recently widowed elderly lady, and Angela, her Romanian nurse who just arrived in Italy, live together in the same house. Both alone, initially distrustful, day by day they open up to each other and discover with humor and irony that they are not so different and are no longer alone. When an unforeseen event seems to separate them, Gemma find the courage to face with Angela a trip to Romania in the desperate search of Angela's husband.  At the mouth of the Danube river they will discover, each in her own way, their own truth.
